Squirrels are small enough to slip through a gap you would never notice and destructive enough to make it an expensive mistake.
Squirrels are the most persistent attic invaders we deal with, and the most costly to ignore. They need to gnaw constantly, and in an attic that means rafters, vent housings, ductwork, and electrical wiring. Chewed insulation on a live wire is a fire risk, which is why we treat squirrel calls as a repair problem as much as a removal problem.
Sumner County is squirrel country. Wooded lots and mature hardwoods overhang rooflines across Hendersonville, Cottontown and Gallatin, and a limb resting a few feet off a gable is all the runway a squirrel needs. In the older Madison and Inglewood neighborhoods we see the other half of the problem: wood trim and fascia soft enough to gnaw through in an afternoon, on houses where the same family of squirrels has been working the block for years.
Entry is usually through a gable vent, a gap where the roofline meets the fascia, or a knothole in trim. Squirrels are daytime animals, so the scratching and rolling sounds tend to be loudest in the early morning and late afternoon — a useful clue that separates them from raccoons or bats.
Our approach is exclusion-led. We identify every opening, remove the animals humanely, and then seal the structure permanently so the colony that has been using your roofline as a nesting site loses access to it. Nesting debris and soiled insulation can be cleaned out and restored at the same time.

- Why do squirrels chew on wiring?
- Their incisors grow continuously, so they gnaw constantly to wear them down. Wiring, rafters, and vent housings all become targets, which is why squirrel activity in an attic is treated as an urgent repair issue.
- Can I just seal the hole myself?
- Sealing a hole with the animal inside traps it, and a trapped squirrel will chew a new opening. Every entry point has to be closed in the right order, after the attic is confirmed clear.
- Do squirrels come back to the same attic?
- They will if the opening is still there or if the repair is only cosmetic. Our exclusion work is permanent and warrantied for that reason.
